World Mindmapping Championship 2017

December 6th – 7th 2017 – in Shenzhen, China

The 2016 World Mind Mapping Championships were held in Singapore, and heralded the resumption of the championships ofter a long break.

Such is the interest in Mind Mapping, the 2017 Mind Mapping Championships will be held in Shenzhen, China in early December 2017.

It is anticipated that the Shenzhen World Mind Mapping Championships will be the largest ever held. Although the number of competitors have not yet been finalised, it is expected that over 100 competitors will be competing.

The Mind Mapping Championship is to be event held over one complete day, prior to the commencement of the World Memory Championships. During this time, three disciplines will be tested.

DISCIPLINE 1

Competitors are required to listen to a 25-30 minute lecture on a subject with no prior warning of the topic. MindMap notes are to be taken during the lecture. This “draft” MindMap will be submitted for marking. An additional 20 minute time limit is given to create a second “tidied up” version, also submitted for marking.

DISCIPLINE 2

Note taking from a piece of text. Competitors are given a written article prior to publication and are required to summarise it using a MindMap.

DISCIPLINE 3

Note making freestyle. Competitors create a MindMap on a subject of their own choice. Bonus points will be awarded for creative expression within MindMap laws. Published source material may be brought by competitors, but not pre-created MindMaps.

MARKING CRITERIA

There are twenty (20) descriptors in which marking will be allocated. They are as follow

  1.  
    1. The MindMap central theme is a captivating and engaging image.
    2. At least three ‘tones’ are used in the central theme.
    3. BOI branches are connected to the central image.
    4. The MindMap has at least ten (10) images and/or symbols.
    5. Only one word is used per branch.
    6. All images are placed on branches.
    7. Impactful and memory targeted choice of key words.
    8. Each branch and its radiant child branches can be discriminated as unique (e.g. by colour).
    9. Branches are appropriately curvilinear.
    10. Elegant and effective use of space (MindMaps fill the entire page).
    11. Use of dimension.
    12. MindMap uses von Restorffian elements, for example highlights and patterns.
    13. Use of synaesthesia.
    14. Humour, use of visual puns or playfulness.
    15. Relationships which are shown by arrows and/or codes.
    16. MindMap is impactful, the WOW factor.
    17. Beauty and attractiveness of the MindMap.
    18. Branches do not extend past the branch word.
    19. Accuracy and completeness of information (for discipline 1 & 2).
    20. Originality.
